How we help you publish

Inkflow can provide a bespoke editorial and design service tailored to your needs. That might be the complete journey from manuscript to paperback book, or any of the editorial and design processes in between.

It’s up to you.

The traditional route vs. independent publishing

If a literary agent notices your manuscript and secures the interest of a publishing house, you might experience multiple rounds of revision. Your book is likely to be shaped to fit market trends, and there will be a long timeline (often years).

Self‑publishing offers a faster, more independent alternative, with more control and creative freedom. Multiple online channels allow you to promote your work, with a direct route to readers around the world.

Can you help me on the traditional route to getting published?

A manuscript that has been processed to a professional standard, and submitted along industry guidelines, has more chance of being noticed when approaching an agent.

It’s important to consider any issues that might arise with characters, cultures, and experiences, so that they are portrayed with care and authenticity.

At its heart, the publishing industry is looking to sell products. Have you thought about a market for your story? Who will it appeal to? As a writer, have you established a profile already, or do you have a story to tell about your experiences?

What elevates a professionally‑produced book?

Traditional publishing has layers of quality control (agents, editors, proofreaders and art directors).

Authors who invest in editorial processes and design will produce books that match or exceed traditional publishing quality. Anyone can self‑publish, which means some unedited books with substandard design reach the market. It’s these things that once shaped perception of quality.

With a product professionally edited and designed, you are free to concentrate on your promotion and marketing.

1) Getting started

We begin with a conversation about your manuscript, your goals, and the level of support you need. Together, we agree the scope of the work and a realistic timeline.

2) Developing your manuscript

You’ll receive the appropriate level of editorial input — whether a reader report, developmental edit, or line edit. You will revise your manuscript and discuss feedback along the way, with collaborative support as required.

3) Preparing for design

Once your manuscript is refined, it is carefully proofread to ensure it’s ready for layout and production.

4) Designing your book

We’ll agree the format and specifications for your book, and develop the design for both the cover and interior. You’ll have the opportunity to review and refine these as they take shape.

5) Final checks

Both you and the editor review the final proofs to ensure everything is accurate and ready.

6) Ready to publish

You receive professionally-prepared files for print and/or digital publication, but Inkflow can manage that too, leaving you free to concentrate on launching and marketing your book.
